The Regional Drosophila Meeting (RDM) is a scientific meeting focussing on research in the model organism Drosophila. It takes place once a year and each year it is organized by Drosophila researchers from a different city (e.g. 2009 Münster, 2010 Göttingen).
The RDM addresses people who are working with Drosophila from all over Germany but we of course also welcome international guests. The program is a mix of short talks, giving many people the opportunity to present their recent (unpublished) data, and poster sessions.
Both platforms live from agile discussions and exchange of knowledge and practical experiences of the participants. Especially for PhD-students and young PostDocs, the RDM is a great opportunity not only to present and discuss their data with people from their field, but also to get in contact with other Drosophila labs and –researchers – maybe for the next position.
Mostly, a famous senior scientist is giving a plenary lecture in addition to the short talks. This year, the plenary lecture will be given by Cayetano Gonzalez from the IRB in Barcelona http://www.pcb.ub.es/divisioncelular.
For the right balance to the scientific program, we offer this year a BBQ and an evening guided city tour in Göttingen’s beautiful old town, followed by a come-together party in Göttingen’s famous pubs.
