Prof. Dr.-Ing. Corinna Bath: How to Avoid Problematically Gendered Intelligent Houses, Robots, and Algorithms?, 26. Juni 2014

26. Juni 2014, 16:15 ? 17: 45 Uhr, MN 14

When computer science and gender are put together the underlying question usually is: How can more women get attracted to computer science? This presentation aims to change perspectives by asking in which ways the computational artefacts (software and IT, but also methods and basic research) are gendered. On the basis of historical case studies Corinna Bath will describe mechanisms that often lead to problematically gendered computational artefacts. She will moreover discuss in which way methods can contribute to avoid such bias and stereotypes in the process of technology design.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Corinna Bath holds the Maria-Goeppert-Mayer chair for "Gender, Technology, and Mobility" at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Braunschweig and at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. She did research and teaching on "gender studies in computer science" in Berlin, Bremen, Vienna, Graz and Lancaster. Recently she has been engaged as a guest professor for the certificate program GENDER PRO MINT at the Center for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies at the TU Berlin.
