Apr 29, 2024: Julia Fischer on the Neuroscience and beyond podcast

SFB-PI Julia Fischer joined host Svilen Georgiev to chat about her research on communication and and behavior in the context of evolution. Julia shares her knowledge about social hierarchies, communication, cognition and evolutionary differences among baboon species. But she also touches upon the question what this research can tell us about us humans and what we can learn from knowing more about baboons. The discussion goes also beyond pure research questions an adresses question about open access, career uncertainty, women in science and the problems and solutions with the publishing industry.

Apr 27, 2024: Radio interview with William O'Hearn

SFB PhD student Will O'Hearn sat down with a team from the NDR Radio program to talk about his research activities and his experiences with field work at the DPZ site Simenti in Senegal. The interview was features in reports about the opening of the exhibition "Ich – Du – Wir: Soziale Beziehungen bei Menschen und anderen Primaten" in the Forum Wissen.

Apr 26, 2024: Viola Priesemann speaks to the podcast "Wissen to Listen"

SFB-PI Viola Priesemann investigates how neuronal networks in the brain learn and think. Her findings are incorporated into the special exhibition "Heart and brain - understanding together" at the Forum Wissen. During the coronavirus pandemic, she used this expertise to describe the spread of the virus. She is now using the findings from her coronavirus research as a basis for investigating how misinformation spread via social networks during the pandemic. She talks about this in this episode. She also reveals how she found her way into physics and the importance of networks in the scientific community.

Apr 2, 2024: Interview with Julia Ostner for "BR Kompakt Wissen"

SFB-PI Julia Ostner was interviewed for the radio program "BR Wissen Kompakt" about their newest publication Social network shrinking is explained by active and passive effects but not increasing selectivity with age in wild macaques"". In the study, SFB members Baptiste Sadoughi, Julia Ostner, Oliver Schülke and their colleague Roger Mundry could show, that similar to humans, Assamese macaques reduce thier social networks when they age, despite not being aware of the finiteness of life.

Mar 8, 2024: press reports about new publication

The newest publication by Early career group leader Neda Shahidi was picked up by the media. Mar 7, 2024: Viola Priesemann on Scobel

The 3SAT science program Scobel focused in its episode on Marc 6 on the topic of "Emergenz - Das verborgene Prinzip des Lebens". The emergence principle can be found everywhere: ants acting in collective formations, units of nerve cells form the basis of human consciousness. In societies, we see the emergence of global socio-cultural phenomena such as religion, the economy and social trends. The emergence principle is currently becoming increasingly important in the context of technology and artificial intelligence. Gert Scobel discussed the increasing relevance of the emergence principle with Viola Priesemann, Achim Stephan (University of Osnabrück) and Stefan Thurner (Medical University Vienna). The entire show is available online in the 3SAT Mediathek.
