The advancing industrialization of information management and increasing resource demands from information systems are putting ecological and social questions in the spotlight for IT managers. Increasing pressure from investors, legislators and employees on companies towards a more responsible usage of scarce and natural resources influences IT domains and requires IT resource management. While responsible resource management has been long pursued in other industrialized industries, information management is still lacking theoretical and conceptional foundations. For the efficient supply, usage and allocation of IT resources new strategic, process oriented and technical concepts are needed. The widely discussed topic of “Green IT” provides first approaches. Furthermore new concepts of an IT marketing are desired to exploit all benefits from initiated measures.

  • Incentive systems and processes to encourage efficient IT resource management
  • Application of theories from Information Systems research on questions regarding IT resource management (e.g. resource-based view)

  • Standards and key performance indicators to measure the performance of IT resource management
  • Implementation and diffusion of IT resource management in IT organizations
  • Contribution of IT to the sustainability objectives of business units
