What is a BA Degree in a Related Subject?

A Bachelor Degree in a “Related Subject“ includes credits which are content-wise consistent with those at the University of Göttingen. A Bachelor in Translation Sciences is, for example, only “subject related” to a certain extend: The BA-Programme of Göttingen consists not only of language practice and linguistics but also of either literature or medieval studies. If someone applies with a BA in Translation Sciences, it will be checked thoroughly which modules the applicant wants to take in Göttingen. If the applicant wants to focus on the major study area “literature”, it can be ruled as “subject related” if there is a learning agreement for the individual to make sure he/she catches up with the basic knowledge and methods of literary studies. A Bachelor in Creative Writing would not be considered as “subject related”.

Students interested in the courses should make inquiries about possible major study areas in advance. If those are handed in together with the application it will help in the processing and in the committee’s decision.
