Press release: CHE University Ranking: University of Göttingen again in the top group

(pug) In the current academic ranking of the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), the University of Göttingen ranked at the top group in five subjects. The subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Geography and Earth Sciences both achieved top marks in the category of “study situation”. The subject Chemistry is represented in the category of citations in the top group. Physics was also convincing with the laboratory equipment as well as research funds. The subjects Geography and Earth Sciences are characterized by an outstanding offer of excursion programmes, Geography with its supervision and scientific publications. The subject Mathematics places at the top for its research funding and scientific publications.

With a total of 32 subjects and more than 300 analysed universities and colleges of applied science in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, the CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking in German-speaking regions. In this year's university ranking, a total of twelve subjects were reassessed. Six departments from the University of Göttingen participated. In addition to facts about studying, teaching, facilities and research, the ranking takes into account the opinion of more than 250,000 students on their study conditions. The university ranking appears in the new ZEIT study guide 2012/13, which will be commercially available beginning May 2, 2012. The results can also be found online at www.zeit.de/hochschulranking.
