Question: When does the degree programme start?

Answer: Term-time (period of lectures) for the summer semester starts in mid-April, and for the winter semester in mid-October, respectively. You can visit the following website to find the exact dates of the current semester:

Question: Are there any orientation and information events at the beginning of the degree programme?

Answer: Yes, there are orientation events at the “Faculty of Economic Sciences Orientation Week” for all students of the Faculty and information sessions for individual Master’s degree programmes. You can access the dates for the semester as soon as they are posted on the following website:




Question: Are there any special information events for international students?

Answer: Just before the beginning of the semester, “International Student Services” (Göttingen International) of Göttingen University organizes an orientation weekend, which should be attended by all foreign students who will start their degree programme in Göttingen that coming semester. Over this weekend, you will receive important information about your course of studies as well as helpful tips on how to find your way around Göttingen.

Question: When and where can I get my student ID?

Answer: You get your student ID in the form of a chip card after enrolment from the chip card office in the Main Lecture Hall (ZHG) between the lecture halls 010 and 011.
