Question: When can I start my master’s thesis?
Answer: The examination regulations of the respective degree programmes regulate the starting dates differently. Please obtain the relevant information about your examination regulations or check with the Service Centre for Students of the faculty.

Question: How do I find an examiner for my master's thesis?
Answer: You can find an examiner for your Master thesis by searching the websites of the individual institutions/ Chairs for topics of interest to you, or directly consulting the respective professors from the appropriate department.
Question: When must I register my topic at the examination office?
Answer: Together with your mentor, you will determine the calendar week, in which the thesis will be registered at the examination office. The examiner/ mentor finally registers the topic at the examination office.
Question: How much time do I have to write my master’s thesis?
Answer: Depending upon the degree programme concerned, the processing time for the master’s thesis is 17 to 20 weeks. Before starting the thesis, a meeting is held with the mentor, so that the candidate knows the thematic orientation in advance. You will receive the exact topic from the examination office at the beginning of the processing time. Compliance with the processing period is essential.
Question: Is it possible to extend the processing time?
Answer: An extension of the processing period may be granted only for three weeks and in case of illness should be certified by a medical certificate. Other material reasons for the extension of the processing time must be certified by the mentor.

Question: Can I write my master’s thesis in another country?
Answer: You can write your thesis abroad, but it needs to be registered at the University of Göttingen and supervised by a professor of the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
Question: Can I write my master’s thesis in English?
Answer: Theses are usually written in German, unless the supervising professor allows the work to be written in a different language. In the Master's degree programme in Development Economics you are supposed to write your thesis in English.
