Information on Research Field and Teaching
The candidate is expected to participate in the research focus „Primate Cognition“, the CRC 889 „Cellular Mechanisms of Sensory Processing”, the CRC 1286, “Quantitative Synaptology” and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN), of the University of Göttingen. She or he will have a central role in a new interfaculty “Institute for Dynamics of Biological Networks“ being founded, and will further strengthen research and teaching in theoretical and computational physics of biological networks at the Göttingen Campus.
In their research, candidates should be distinguished by outstanding, international publications, by the successful leadership of interdisciplinary research projects and by the development of novel theoretical and mathematical approaches to the structure and function of biological networks. An internationally outstanding research program in the field of theoretical and mathematical neurophysics is expected. Relevant research questions include in particular the theory of selforganization, evolution and optimization of large-scale networks in the cortex and their quantitative description, chaos and nonlinear dynamics of spiking neuronal networks and the influence of biophysical mechanisms on their information processing and phase space organization.
