Research group of Prof. Dr. Claudia Höbartner
Welcome!
Welcome to our research group at the Institute for Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry at the University of Göttingen. Our research interests are in the field of biomolecular label chemistry, with a focus on the chemistry and biochemistry of natural and artificial functional nucleic acids. We develop RNA and DNA-based tools (aptamers and (deoxyr)ribozymes) and labeling reactions, and study natural nucleic acid modifications.
PhD and Postdoc-applications welcome!
Applications from highly motivated students are always welcome! If you look for research opportunities in organic synthesis, biomolecular label chemistry, and/or nucleic acid (bio)chemisty, please contact Claudia Höbartner directly by e-mail.
Crystal structure of a DNA catalyst
Almudena Ponce-Salvatierra from our group together with Vlad Pena (MPIbpc) has solved the first crystal structure of a DNA catalyst. Her work has been published in Nature on Jan 6, 2016.
The structure shows how DNA forms an active site for catalysis of RNA ligation. The DNA catalyst is in blue, the RNA in orange, the sphere is the ligation site.
