Studied history and art history, master's degree in Christianity in Culture and Society. 2001 Doctorate at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (The Disturbed Form: On the Tradition and Significance of an Architectural Topos). 2002-2004 Research Fellow at the Central Institute for Art History, Munich. 2009 Habilitation at the University of Göttingen (History Painting at the New Palace of Westminster). Teaching at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, at the Georg August University of Göttingen, at the University of Regensburg, at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

Current: Head of the Diocesan Art Commission in the Diocese of Münster, Lecturer at the University of Göttingen, Scientific Advisory Board of the Prince Albert Society, Member of the Forum Art History of Britain and Ireland (FAHBI)
