Katharina Scheidgen is the new Assistant Professor for Entrepreneurship and Innovation


Entrepreneurship and Innovation is the name of the new junior professorship at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Göttingen. Prof. Dr. Katharina Scheidgen has held it since 1 October 2021. Before moving to Göttingen, Katharina Scheidgen was a post-doc at the Digital Transformation Research Centre at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship and networks, entrepreneurial ecosystems and entrepreneurial teams. She focuses on high-tech innovations, digitalisation and social innovation.

Prof. Scheidgen is offering two courses in the winter semester. The lecture "Entrepreneurship and Innovation" is primarily aimed at Bachelor students, but can also be taken by Master students in the area of key qualifications. In addition, Master's students can participate in the seminar "Resourcing in Entrepreneurship". The courses are aimed at students from the three faculties of Business and Economics, Agricultural Sciences, as well as Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology.

After studying organisational and innovation sociology at the TU Berlin, Prof. Scheidgen completed her doctorate there in 2020 on the network formation of innovative growth companies in Silicon Valley and Berlin (reviewers: Prof. Dr. Arnold Windeler and Prof. Dr. Jörg Sydow). After her PhD, she worked on the two research projects "Digital Social Innovation & Covid-19" (Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society) and "Solidarity with Solo Self-Employed People" (Berlin University Alliance, TU Berlin). During her time as a PostDoc at the University of Lüneburg, she visited Lund University and the University of Amsterdam as a visiting scholar.

Furthermore, Katharina Scheidgen is a member of various networks and societies such as the DFG network "Venturing Together!", the Academy of Management, the German Sociological Association, the European Group of Organization Studies as well as the Association of University Teachers of Business Administration (VHB). As an ad-hoc reviewer, she reviews articles for the journals "Journal of Business Venturing" and "Organization Studies", among others.

The Junior Professorship for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is funded by the "Exist-Gründungskultur" programme as well as by the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences, Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology as well as Business and Economics. With "Exist-Gründungskultur", the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy supports start-up promotion projects at universities. For example, the Göttingen Entrepreneurship Campus is to be established at the Göttingen science location.
