RECOGNITION OF CREDITS
Academic achievements (credits) can be completed not only within our faculty, but also at other faculties of the University of Göttingen. Credit transfer is especially possible in the professionalisation area of your studies, where course selection is more flexible. For these internal university exams, you typically register in the familiar way through the FlexNow exam system by the registration deadline. If registration is not possible, please contact the study advising office via email with the course title.
However, if you wish to transfer credits from previous studies or from a study abroad experience at another university into your study programme at our Forestry Faculty, this is done via a credit transfer process.
Procedure
Elective Modules:
The application for recognition of previously completed credits is available as an online form on eCampus (Additional Services -> Forms -> Examination Office’s Forms -> Recognition of Examination Results).
Please upload all required information/documents. The completed application will automatically be sent to the Study Dean’s Office of your faculty for evaluation. Please submit a separate application for each credit. Applications that combine multiple credit transfers cannot be processed and will be rejected.
Compulsory Modules:
For compulsory module credit transfer, please contact the study advising office in advance. There you will receive an assessment of the equivalence of the credits to be recognized. Please follow our recommendations and save yourself and us unnecessary additional work.
Please provide us with the following documents to verify the equivalence:
Module descriptions with content description, credits or SWS, and a certificate of achievement (transcript) showing credits and grades. Otherwise, the procedure is the same as for elective modules.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL CREDITS:
For credits completed abroad, we ask that you provide a grading scale from the respective institution to allow conversion to the German grading system. Foreign grades are converted based on the modified Bavarian Formula. For certificates of achievements that show both foreign grades and ECTS grades, conversion is based on the foreign grades. The information from Anabin applies.
FAQ
I have already completed (forestry) modules in another study programme at the University of Göttingen which are listed on FlexNow. Why do I need to have them recognized again?
The modules must be recorded in FlexNow under the “correct” study programme. For example, the module “Fundamentals of Natural Sciences”, which is taken in the Ecosystem Management programme, will only count for the Forestry programme if it is listed in FlexNow under the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology programme. This “reallocation” in FlexNow must be separately requested as a “Recognition of Examination Result” and does not happen automatically when you switch study programmes.
I would like to have credits earned abroad recognized as voluntary additional credits. Is that possible?
No, that is not possible. Only modules from the University of Göttingen can be certified as voluntary additional credits. For credits from abroad, you will have the transcript from the foreign university.
Which credits can I have recognized, and to what extent?
- Usually bachelor’s students can only have bachelor-level courses recognized, and master’s students can only have master-level courses.
- You can have modules from other faculties at the University of Göttingen or other universities (e.g., from previous studies or a study abroad semester) recognized.
- Credits that are relevant to your study programme can be recognized in the professionalisation area up to the amount specified in the Examination and Study Regulations.
- Only complete modules can be recognized, not individual courses.
When can I have academic credits recognized?
You can submit applications for the recognition of credits as soon as you are enrolled in the study programme at our faculty. There is no deadline, meaning you can submit these applications until the end of your studies. However, note that credits earned during your studies cannot be retroactively replaced by recognition of prior credits.
It is recommended to consult with our faculty’s study advisors before submitting your application.
