9th Migration Research Lab: “Displacement, Expulsion and Deportation”

This workshop is designed to initiate exchange about migration and the current European border regime and the way its control, transformations and regulations affect people’s bodies and lives. To this end, this workshop focuses on the European deportation regime in order to highlight the issues of precarity and precarious forms of life created by such bordering practices. The workshop’s idea is to exchange ethnographic insights, methodological questions and analytical challenges regarding current shifts and continuities in the border regimes.Shahram Khosravi is a Professor of Anthropology at Stockholm University with research focuses on mobility, border studies, migration, precarity, and waithood. He is the author of many academic books and articles such as After Deportation: Ethnographic Perspectives, Precarious Lives: Waiting and Hope in Iran, the “Illegal” Traveller: An Auto-ethnography of Borders, and Young and Defiant in Tehran. Aside the academic writing, he prefers to write stories and he has been an active writer in the international press. For the past year he has been working on an art book on Waiting. He started also the Critical Border Studies, a network for scholars, artists and activists to interact.
