The Beginnings of Modern Poetry

The project "The Beginnings of Modern Poetry" uses digital methods to study the transformation of German-language poetry from about 1850 to 1920. The main corpus consists of several thousand texts from contemporary poetry anthologies. The analysis focuses on content, style, form and emotion.

The project, located in Würzburg and Göttingen, is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is part of the priority program "Computational Literary Studies". The first phase of the project ran from 2020 to 2023, the second phase will run until 2026.
