A new division is launched
As of January 1, 2024, the new department 'Animal Nutrition Physiology and Resource Efficiency' was founded with the appointment of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Siegert [Link zu meiner Seite] was launched. The department is dedicated to long-term global food security through resource conservation and reduced environmental impact from animal husbandry. This is done by adapting the nutrient supply of animals more and more precisely to the actual needs and by exploring the potential of feed to supply animals with nutrients and energy. The target animal species in research are primarily poultry, pigs and insects.
This content is also covered in teaching. Teaching includes to supply students with knowledge of evaluating feeding strategies based on physiological mechanisms so that the consequences of new feeding strategies can be anticipated in the best possible way. This includes the diverse and often conflicting effects of feeding, such as health, welfare, environmental consequences and product quality.
