This workshop teaches basic text type skills for term papers, portfolios, and other relevant formats in the humanities. First-year students learn how to structure academic texts, use sources, and clearly formulate their own arguments. The workshop takes a product- and process-oriented approach.

In this workshop, you will learn how to express yourself in scientific language in German-language academic texts. To this end, we will first analyze the characteristics of scientific language in authentic texts. The focus will be on expressions that are used in most scientific texts, regardless of the subject area. You will learn in which contexts these expressions are used and what functions they have in the text. You will also practice using such scientific language formulations in your own academic texts.

This workshop is aimed at students who have collected and evaluated empirical data and now want to write it up, e.g., as part of a thesis. You will learn about the requirements that must be met when writing up quantitatively and qualitatively collected data in academic texts. In addition to presenting the data in an appropriate scientific language, this also includes linking your own results with findings from previous research. You will learn about the characteristic features of scientific language in results and discussion chapters and apply them to the writing up of your own empirical data. Please note: The focus of this course is on the presentation of empirical research. Methodological advice on the collection and/or evaluation of empirical data cannot be provided within the scope of this workshop.
