Saving energy made easy - Free advice and grants for BAföG recipients
Students who receive BAföG can receive free advice with an energy-saving check from the Energieagentur Region Göttingen. If necessary, they will receive energy-saving aids worth up to 70 euros and, if applicable, a subsidy for the purchase of a new, more efficient refrigerator. The City of Göttingen also subsidises the purchase of new efficient devices with its Climate Fund. Following an energy-saving check, applicants can receive 250 to 300 euros per device if the new purchase enables a savings potential of 200 kWh per year.
Shared flats ('WGs'): In shared flats that are shared by students receiving BAföG and students not receiving BAföG, the tenancy agreement and the electricity contract must be held by a student receiving BAföG in the shared flat. Two BAföG recipients and two other people live in a shared flat. One person receiving BAföG is the (main) tenant and has concluded the electricity contract for the flat. If the refrigerator can be replaced, the household receives the refrigerator subsidy for two people (the two students receiving BAföG).
