Reducing the crude protein content of the feed for broiler chickens while supplying the animals with amino acids according to their requirements is desirable, as this reduces the negative environmental impacts of animal husbandry and avoids unnecessary amounts of feed being used to produce animal-based foods. Using free amino acids in feed with a low protein content is necessary because free amino acids enable to precisely adjust target concentrations of individual amino acids in the feed. The required proportion of free amino acids in feed mixtures increases the lower the crude protein content of the feed is. It is known that free amino acids are absorbed differently than amino acids in plant-based feed. This can also influence the availability of amino acids in the metabolism.
The aim of the project is to build on the findings of a previous project and to investigate adaptations influences on effects of high dietary proportions of free amino acids for broiler chickens on the absorption and the metabolism of the animals. One focus is on the relevance of the supply of the amino acids glutamine and asparagine. The project is carried out in cooperation with the University of Hohenheim, the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the FBN Dummerstorf.
