Julius Christoph Nippert

Dear fellow doctoral students,
my name is Julius. I am pursuing my doctorate at the University of Göttingen since April 2025, after studying law between 2018 and 2025 with a special focus on international law. During my studies I held positions as student assistant to Vice President Prof. Dr. Inge Hanewinkel, Chair for Roman Law, Civil Law and Civil Law History, and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Andreas L. Paulus, Former Judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Chair for Public Law and International Law, and interned with Clifford Chance, PartGmbH, as well as the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
For my doctoral thesis, I analyze the interpretation of customary international law. Drawing from international legal history, enlightened positivism, social constructivism and philosophy of language, I attempt to show the transformation of this source of international law in the era of the United Nations.
Apart from my thesis, I am a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Andreas L. Paulus. I additionally teach students in constitutional and international law in this capacity. In my free time you can find me in the climbing gym or running or cycling the trails of Göttingen’s forests.
During my term as doctoral student representative of the Faculty of Law, I want to strengthen the interdisciplinary discourse of doctoral students at the GGG.
