Intraplate-Deformation

Our research focuses on the structural evolution and tectonic processes governing deformation within continental interiors, with particular emphasis on sedimentary basin evolution, continental rifting, and basin inversion. We investigate how pre-existing crustal and basement structures influence the localization, style, and magnitude of deformation, and how these structures are reactivated during subsequent tectonic events. Our research integrates structural geological mapping, balanced cross-sections, and geometrical forward modelling to quantify crustal shortening, reconstruct deformation histories, and understand the mechanisms controlling structural evolution. Field-based investigations of intraplate deformation, including the interplay between inherited structures, tectonic reactivation, and sedimentary basin dynamics, are conducted across a range of geological settings, including Central Europe, the Central Andes, Central Asia, Himalaya's and North America's Midcontinent Rift.
