As a faculty, we want to support our doctoral candidates and habilitands
in the best possible way. We focus on their research, further education,
and networking. General information on earning a doctoral degree at the
Georg-August-Universität Göttingen can be found
here.
The doctoral programme enables candidates to conduct independent research and treat legal issues in depth.
Offering a wide range of research areas, the faculty opens up a variety of opportunities for specialisation. As they do not need to pass examinations and collect credits, our doctoral candidates can concentrate fully on their individual research project under the guidance of their supervisor.
Nevertheless, the faculty provides regular courses to convey both subject-specific and universal academic skills.
These meetings are a good opportunity for doctoral candidates to make contacts, exchange ideas and build a network with their fellow students. All information on applying for a Doctor juris at the
Faculty of Law Göttingen. Regular course offerings that convey subject-specific and academic
skills and supplement individual supervision. The Göttingen Graduate School offers
structured support and networking for doctoral candidates. The Elise Selbert (EliSe) Mentoring Program is aimed at
female doctoral candidates and habilitands in law.
It offers targeted networking, seminars, and workshops for female
early-career researchers. Our faculty supports habilitands through its own budget, which
opens up scientific freedom for them. Habilitation projects
are accompanied by professors through a persona grata procedure. In addition, the University's PostDoc Network enables
interdisciplinary networking. For postdocs, there is also
the possibility of funding through the Dorothea Schlözer Program. The university-wide PostDoc Network enables interdisciplinary
networking and joint exchange. Funding for postdocs within the framework of the

Doctoral candidates talk about their research, their path to the doctorate
and their time at the Faculty of Law Göttingen.
The doctorate was the perfect intermediate step for me between my studies and my career.
I was able to deal intensively with a topic that is important to me and grew both professionally and personally in the process. And the libraries here really have everything.
I really enjoy doing my doctorate in Göttingen. Research fascinates me and the deeper I delve into my topic, the more exciting it becomes.
I especially appreciate the exchange with other doctoral candidates here and find it very nice that close friendships have also developed from this.
The EliSe Mentoring Program helped me build my network
and advance my academic career in a targeted manner.
