Press release: Attractive research location for international scientists

Nr. 162/2017 - 01.09.2017

Göttingen University ranked sixth nationwide in the 2017 German Humboldt Rankings

(pug) The University of Göttingen continues to be in high demand amongst international researchers. In its 2017 Humboldt Rankings, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has given sixth place in Germany to the University—with its total of 152 guest scientists. In the previous Humboldt Rankings published in 2014, Göttingen University ranked fifth with 148 guest scientists in total then. The Humboldt Rankings show how many scientists came to Germany with a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation within the past five years and where they chose to spend their research fellowships. “We are very pleased with the excellent result that we have once again achieved, which is not least a confirmation of our internationalisation strategy with which we have consistently expanded the internationalisation of the University in previous years," says Professor Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, Vice President for International Affairs at Göttingen University.

The Humboldt Rankings rates guest fellowships to Germany by leading international scientists. The stays are ranked in relation to the number of professorships at each respective university. In addition to the overall rating, the Humboldt Foundation also produces ranking lists for disciplines like the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
