Poverty and Agenda 2010 in Göttingen. A critical poverty and wealth report.

Project management: Dr. Hans-Dieter von Frieling
Project period: April 2008 to April 2009

Project objectives: Municipal social reports about poverty and the situation of poor have been published since the 1980s in the Federal Republic of Germany. Their objective is to identify social problems in time to be able to improve actions of the social state. Meanwhile poverty and wealth reports are issued for the level of national states, too. The third national report was approved by the federal government in June 2008. Further reports are published by unions and charitable organizations. In 2008 there was no current report for the city of Göttingen.

The objective of the report is to detect poverty in the city of Göttingen by an analysis of statistical data at small scale and to describe changes in comparison to the state of 1990, when a previous report (1) was published. The statistical analysis is complemented by field reports from transfer income recipients and institutions looking for or supporting transfer income recipients.
