The Bioinformatics application area covers both the biological foundations, especially genetics and molecular biology, and algorithmic and statistical methods in bioinformatics. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology and Psychology.

The Computational Neuroscience application area is located at the interface between biological and artificial neural networks. Topics include the modelling and analysis of perception and decision-making processes in the brain, data science methods for neuroscience, and areas such as computer vision and robotics. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Biology and Psychology.

The Medical Data Science application area focuses on the use of data science methods in medicine and healthcare. It is offered in cooperation with the University Medical Center Göttingen.

The Digital Humanities application area deals with the application of data science methods to digital resources in the humanities and social sciences. It is offered in cooperation with the Institute for Digital Humanities.

Since the winter semester 2022/23, the new application area “Computational Sustainability” can be chosen. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculties of Geoscience and Geography, Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology, and Agricultural Sciences. More information will follow.

Since the winter semester 2023/24, the new application area “Digital Business Administration” can be chosen. It is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Business and Economics. More information will follow.
