Areti Bours

Dear fellow doctoral students,

my name is Areti, and I have been pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Göttingen since October 2024. I previously earned my bachelor’s degree in social sciences and my master’s degree in diversity research in the social sciences here. In my doctoral research, I examine the construction, reproduction, and transformation of masculinity in football ultra-groups. To this end, I conduct biographical interviews with (former) members and analyze artifacts from the groups. I am also a research assistant at the Institute for Methods and Methodological Foundations of the Social Sciences (IMMS) and in the Gender Studies program, where I am primarily involved in teaching.
As the doctoral student representative for the Faculty of Social Sciences, I would like to strengthen networking among doctoral students, regardless of whether you are working at the university or pursuing your doctorate externally, or whether you live in Göttingen or not. In addition, I am of course also your point of contact for any problems or challenges—please feel free to reach out to me anytime!

Best regards, Areti
