Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences!

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Göttingen University is characterised by a wide range of subjects: ethnology, education, gender studies, political science, sociology and sports science, modern indian studies and an interdisciplinary institute for methods and methodologies. The research topics in the social sciences are correspondingly diverse and deal with social transformation processes from various perspectives.

    Wolfgang Enke Award / Sholarship

    The Enke Jury of the Faculty of Social Sciences is once again announcing awards and scholarships from the Wolfgang Enke Donation. The award is announced for outstanding social science theses (bachelor's or master's theses), dissertations, and postdoctoral theses that focus on social policy or welfare state research. Thematically relevant interdisciplinary work will also be considered. In addition, scholarships (for fieldwork, interviews, transcriptions, etc.) may also be awarded to outstanding candidates for the completion of relevant work.

    April 8–9, 2026: Master's orientation phase

    At the beginning of April, the annual orientation phase for new master's students at our faculty will take place again. Students will be welcomed in person in Göttingen before the start of the semester. In addition, you will receive all the relevant information for your studies and have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and lecturers.
