Funding of MSc students
The program cannot financially support MSc students with stipends. We encourage all applicants to actively search for possible individual funding opportunities.
In addition to national funding sources available in many countries, we have identified possible stipends for MSc students from funding sources in Germany.

This scholarship programme offers you the opportunity to continue your academic education in Germany with a postgraduate course of study. The scholarships are funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The aim of the scholarship programme is to support the qualification and employability of young academics and future professionals from developing and emerging countries. It offers the opportunity to continue their academic and professional career in innovation-driving STEM fields in Germany with a Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and engineering.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has collected information on various scholarships available for international students and provides an overview in a scholarship database.

The European Scholarship Programme "You and Europe" is aimed at European students wishing to complete a master’s programme in Germany.
Please note that applicants have to be nominated by a university lecturer before they are invited to submit their applications. Further information on the nomination and application procedures can be found on the program website.

Our MSc/PhD program is member of the NEURASMUS consortium. Interested students are encouraged to apply for NEURASMUS with Göttingen as their first choice for the first study year and join our program as Neurasmate.

The International Office of the University of Göttingen has compiled a list of further additional funding opportunities available for students at our University.

Funding of PhD students
During your PhD studies, you are usually employed and funded by the hosting institution. Our Neurosciences Program has as budget available for start-up, bridging, or wrap-up funding of PhD students if needed.

Budget for student activities
Budgets are available for students to attend international scientific conferences, research stays abroad and student-organized, scientific or cultural events.

Semester fees
Tuition fees for the Neurosciences Program are covered to a great extent by the German government, with the exception of a fee of currently approx. 400 Euros per semester, depending on the type of scholarship you receive. Your semester fee includes the so-called semester ticket for free use of local buses (GöVB) as well as regional trains (Deutschlandticket).

Living Costs
Living costs (including accommodation in a student dormitory and health insurance) in Göttingen are approximately 900 Euros per month for a single person.

Housing
Single rooms are available in student dormitories administered by the Studentenwerk Göttingen. The monthly rent starts at approximately 260-380 Euros including fast internet connection and utilities. Our Neurosciences Office will, upon request, assist you in reserving a dormitory room. Off-campus housing (mostly private) is usually more expensive, but offers a wider range of options. Assistance in finding off-campus housing is also offered by the International Office of the University and the Studentenwerk Göttingen.

Health Insurance
German health insurance is obligatory for all students who are not citizens of the European Union. Special student insurance is available at low rates to all master students under 30 years of age. This insurance covers the costs of normal medical treatment (including dental care) in Germany. The monthly payment is currently approx. 120 Euros.

Liability Insurance
Throughout the first year, the Neurosciences program covers the costs for private liability insurance for all students.
