Project: "Individual and collective memories of slavery and the slave trade: A contrastive comparison of different communities, generations and groupings in Ghana and Brazil"

Marcela Soares has a Social Sciences degree from the Federal University of Bahia. She’s
currently pursuing both a bachelor and a master’s degree in Political Science at the same
institution.

Research-wise, as a scientific initiation scholarship holder, Marcela worked for two and half
years investigating democracy, cosmopolitanism and social and political changes in Brazilian
Political Thought, considering and comparing different lineages of the sociological and
political area of study known as “Interpretations of Brazil”. Aside from that, she also has
experience with Western Political Theory, Social Movements and Economic Sociology. Her
Master’s research focuses on the insurgence of new political movements in Brazil in the last
decade, considering political unrest and drastic democratic changes.
