Working Group "Breeding Research in Einkorn and Safflower"
Safflower is a fascinating crop plant with a potential as oil crop in organic agriculture. A corresponding project with safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) on breeding method as main aspect was recently completed (Bine Rudolphi).
Since 1999 we conduct a small breeding program with Einkorn (Triticum monococcum). The objective is to develop Einkorn with adequate winter hardiness, high beta-carotene content and good free-threshing-feature. This program is a major component of the B.Sc.-module "Experimental Plant Breeding (Nr. 740223)". Work on Einkorn is carried out in cooperation with the group "Breeding Research Faba Bean".
