Description of the degree programme
The German language bachelor's degree programme in social sciences combines a broad-based education in the social sciences with innovative ideas arising from the Bologna Discussions.

Sound basics // Decision on subjects not until your second semester
At the beginning of the degree programme, you acquire basic skills in scientific work, in discussing subject-related content and in organising and planning of your curriculum. For this purpose, you also receive a theoretical, methodological and scientific overview of social issues.

Large selection of subjects
The bachelor's in social sciences is one of its kind in Germany thanks to its large selection of subjects: Ethnology, education, gender studies, interdisciplinary Indian studies, political science, sociology, sport science.

Individual profile building through specialisation
In addition, you sharpen your education in your specific subject by selecting a complementary discipline: In-depth study of ethnology (especially languages), economics and/or law or a third social science subject.

The degree programme is aimed at prospective students seeking a broad-based course in social sciences with a large selection of subject combinations. You can use the first semester for orientation before selecting your areas of specialisation. Likewise, the degree programme is attractive for those who want an interdisciplinary course of study beyond the boundaries of the social sciences (special language offering and incorporation of economics and law).

Degree programme structure
A theoretical, methodical and scientific overview of social issues will be given to you during the first semester. At the beginning of the degree programme, you acquire basic skills in scientific work, in discussing subject-related content and in organising and planning of your curriculum.

In contrast to other courses, you need not decide on your individual areas of specialisation until the second semester, when you choose two of the following social science subjects:
• Ethnology
• Educational Science
• Gender Studies
• Interdisciplinary Indian Studies
• Political Science
• Sociology
• Sport Science

Our academic advisors will assist you in your selection. In addition, you sharpen your education in your specific subject by selecting a complementary discipline:
• In-depth ethnology studies (especially languages)
• Economics and/or Law
• A third social science subject

An internship or study abroad form an integral part of your degree programme. In addition, your studies are rounded off by a wide range of key competencies, which you conclude with a bachelor's dissertation in one of the selected social science subjects.
