Formal Requirements and Information on Academic Writing

Formal Requirements

The following regulations also apply to the allocation of theses (diploma, bachelor's, master's):

  • The thesis must be related to the field of management and control.

  • In principle, there are two types of topics to choose from: from the research areas of the department or in cooperation with an industrial company.

  • The research areas of the chair and current topic suggestions for theses can be found on this page (usually 4 weeks before the application deadline). The suggested topics indicate which are suitable for bachelor's or master's/diploma students. In principle, own topic suggestions in the research areas of the department are also possible.

  • If you are interested in a thesis in cooperation with an industrial company, please prepare a project outline/description of about 1 DIN A4 page.

  • At each of the three application deadlines, it will be decided which theses can be started in the next period (e.g., early February for the start in February, March, April, or May). The exact start dates must be agreed upon with the supervisor.

  • When applying via the online form, a transcript of records, a CV, and for master's theses, the bachelor's certificate can be submitted as additional documents for better content assignment of theses and topics.

  • Master's students must present the progress of their thesis in an internal research colloquium of the department (presentation and discussion). The exact time of the presentation will be individually agreed upon with the supervisor.

  • The number of supervised theses depends on the capacity of the chair. If the demand exceeds the capacity of the chair, not all applications can be considered.

  • Applicants will be informed of the acceptance or rejection. In the case of acceptance, a supervisor (usually a staff member) will be assigned. The applicant is expected to confirm their acceptance within 3 days. Otherwise, the thesis topic will be assigned to another applicant.

  • The application process at the department does not replace the registration with the examination office. Please inquire in good time with the examination office about the formalities you need to complete!
