How to apply for a bachelor’s programme
Citizens both from an EU country and from a non-EU country (or stateless persons) apply directly to the University of Göttingen, which has set up its own online portal for this purpose, where all steps are described in detail. Please use this online portal ("Application Guide") to apply for our bachelor's programmes:
All of our bachelor's programmes require German language skills.
Open admission bachelor's programmes of the Faculty of Business and Economics
You can enrol in these degree programmes without prior application during certain periods (see enrolment dates - the programmes start in both the summer and winter semesters):

Enrolment dates for EU citizens
- From 1 June until 30 September for the subsequent winter semester
- From 1 December until 31 March for the subsequent summer semester
Enrolment dates for non-EU and stateless applicants
- Starting after receiving the letter of admission; within this, the exact dates are stated
Restricted admission bachelor's programmes of the Faculty of Business and Economics
The Bachelor's programme in Sustainable Development Studies and the 2-subject Bachelor's programme in Economics (Bachelor of Arts) are subject to limited admission. Both programmes only start in the winter semester. Application is possible during the following periods:
Application deadline for EU citizens
- Start of studies in the winter semester (October): 1 June to 15 July of each year
Application deadline for citizens of a country outside the EU and EEA (or stateless persons)
- Start of studies in the winter semester (October): 1 March to 30 April of each year

How to apply for a master’s programme
For our master’s programmes, you apply directly to the Faculty of Business and Economics. During the application periods, we activate an online application form on the websites of the individual degree programmes.
Our master’s programmes are subject to limited admission and require German language skills. Only for the Master of Science in Development Economics no knowledge of German is required (only knowledge of English). Furthermore, you can study the Master of Arts in History of Global Markets in both German and English.
In general, the application deadlines for our master’s programmes are:
- 1 April to 15 May of a year (start of studies in the winter semester (October))
- 1 October to 15 November of a year (start of studies in the summer semester (April))
Exceptions:
The Master of Science in Applied Statistics and the Master of Science in Management only start in the winter semester. You can therefore only apply for these programmes from 1 April to 15 May each year.
The Master of Science in Development Economics also always begins in the winter semester. The following application deadlines apply to this programme:
- Application period for citizens from the EU/EEA (European Economic Area) OR applicants with a bachelor’s degree from an EU/EEA country beginning in the winter semester: 1 April to 15 May of the same calendar year
- Application period for citizens from non-EU/non-EEA (European Economic Area) countries AND a bachelor’s degree from outside an EU/EEA country beginning in the winter semester: 1 October to 15 November of the previous calendar year
