Details

In the Master's programme in Management you can choose between a highly specialised or a generalist education - and you can even switch between these orientations during the course of your studies, so that you don't have to decide right at the beginning.

There are seven different specialisations to choose from: Innovation & Entrepreneurship Management; International Management; Leadership & Human Resource Management; Marketing & E-Business Management; Corporate Control & Supply Chain Management and Business Development & Strategic Management. If you do not choose a specific focus, but instead wish to pursue a generalist education, you can choose the "General Management" focus.

In addition to the subject-specific courses of the respective specialisation, you will also take corresponding courses from the area of "Research Methods", because a valid impact analysis of management decisions is only possible using robust methods. Methods (e.g. also statistics) also remain constant in the long term and can always be applied to new challenges (e.g. business analytics or measuring sustainability). Conceptual considerations, i.e. theories and models, are important to understand patterns behind developments.

Of course, you will also apply the knowledge you have acquired in your studies. This is done in the practical project (see “Structure”): Teamwork is almost indispensable in today's professional life. The practical project helps students to become more aware of their own role and strengths in a team.

A practical focus is also established in the programme through compulsory basic modules in the 1st and 2nd semesters (see “Structure”) as well as, for example, through

  • Lectures by practitioners in lectures; especially by alumni
  • Joint seminars and research projects with companies
  • Practice-relevant final theses in cooperation with companies
  • Credits can be awarded for an internship during your studies
  • In addition, an annual job and career fair with numerous companies takes place on the university campus

In cooperation with the Business School of Nanjing University (NJUBS) in China, the Faculty of Business and Economics also offers a double degree programme. Within the framework of this programme, you can obtain a master's degree from Göttingen University and a master's degree from Nanjing University.

Good German language skills (if your native language is not German) are required.

If you would like to apply for the double degree programme with Nanjing University in China, you must also demonstrate a very good command of English.

Our graduates can work in a wide range of industries - depending, for example, on the focus they choose. They may work in the automotive industry, retail, telecommunications or in management consultancies - for example as:

  • Corporate Responsibility Manager Climate & Ecology at a retail company
  • Social Media und Community Manager at a financial services provider
  • Data Scientist at a pharmaceutical company
  • Personal Assistant to the Board of Directors at a railroad company
  • Business Development Strategist at an NGO
  • Self-employed digitalization consultant
  • Junior Engagement Manager at a management consultancy

Structure

In the first semester you should take the basic modules "Problem Solving and Communication Skills", "Empirical Methods and Skills" and "Career Development". The basic module "Praxisprojekt” (Practical Project) should be taken in the second semester.

The basic modules teach fundamental theoretical and practical management skills as well as important key competences at the same time. This knowledge prepares you for your later career entry as well as for the further course of your studies.

In addition, you can choose different specialisations according to your own interests in the Master's programme in Management and thus give your studies an individual profile and acquire specific professional qualifications. You take the required modules (30 credits) from the specialisation area in the first to third semester.

You can choose from the following specialisations:

  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship Management
  • International Management
  • Leadership & Human Resource Management
  • Marketing & E-Business Management
  • Corporate Control & Supply Chain Management
  • Business Development & Strategic Management

When you have completed successfully all of the courses (modules) assigned to the chosen specialisation, each totalling at least 30 credits, certification will be awarded by means of a degree "Master in Management with the specialisation (NN)".

At least 6 credits and a maximum of 12 credits of these 30 credits must be selected through modules from the area of in-depth research methods. The chosen modules from the area of in-depth research methods must be assigned to the chosen specialisation.

If you do not choose a specific focus, but instead wish to pursue a generalist education, you can choose the focus "General Management".

In the second and in the third semester, you take a seminar (6-12 credits) as well as modules from the elective area and the focus area.

In the fourth semester you write your Master's thesis (30 credits). The processing time is 20 weeks and the thesis must finally be presented in the context of a research colloquium.
