Sensory Science in Agriculture
"Eating is an agricultural act" wrote Wendell Berry, an American essayist and poet. What we eat has a direct impact on how our world is used. Agricultural Science and Food Sensory Science are connected. We stand for nationally and internationally recognized achievements in research and education with implications for consumers, industry and society.
In today’s crowded and competitive market, standing out in direct marketing or for negotiations with retailers can be helpful for farmers. We support farmers to define their products for visibility and strategy. More about our activities
For students
Have you ever wondered how people perceive food? Would you like to understand and study the processing of sensory signals, eating behavior, memory and learning, food preferences, acceptance, or the product quality of foods? Are you innovative and looking for a thesis or a job where you can combine theoretical knowledge with practical scientific experience in a leading research field? Then come and join us! Food sensory science is versatile. We use sensory science methods to understand and describe product quality of agricultural products and understand their human sensory perceptions with trained testers and consumers. We can derive recommendations: for new strategies in animal nutrition (keyword: alternative protein sources), in product development or in animal breeding (keyword: preservation by eating up). We work in important and diverse research projects and we support farmers to achieve specific visibility of their products and product development. Practical experience within current research projects prepare our students optimally for their career both in industry and science. Further InformationFor farmers
Are you a farmer? We support from improving existing products to new direct marketing strategies. We can answer specific questions in the context of bachelor and master theses. In this way, we provide our students relevant topics in real life. You benefit from our methodological expertise and intensive supervision. We work together with trained examiners as well as consumers and chefs. For future project partners
Are you looking for support for a future project in which food sensory analysis is to play a role? We provide support with project applications and carry out studies on sensory issues.
