Workshops & Symposia - 2025
Dec 8, German Primate Center
The Göttingen Neural Networking Day has quickly become a fixture in the academic year in Göttingen. SFB Postdoc Ayuno Nakahashi took the lead again in organising the event. The meeting brings together everyone from the Campus interested in neuroscience, from molecules to minds. The aim is to meet, mingle and discuss all our diverse topics and ideas. Everyone is welcome and poster presentations and blitz talks are invited For more information and registration, please visit the meeting website.
Nov 26, 12-13.30, Michael Lankeit Lecture Hall
The way you conduct conversations with your colleagues, superiors, students and not least yourself partly determines whether a project will be a success or a failure. The way you communicate influences your well-being and that of the whole team immensely. In this one-hour interactive talk, I will introduce you to Marshall Rosenberg's model of “non-violent communication”. You will receive concrete advice on how to improve your communication skills to increase your effectiveness, avoid time-consuming misunderstandings and limit unintended damage and discriminatory interactions in challenging conversations. Content:
- How to prepare for a challenging conversation
- How to give and accept critical feedback
- How to find win-win solutions more easily
- How to promote an inclusive work environment
Nov 20-21, 9AM-4PM, German Primate Center, Seminar Room E0.14
This two-day workshop offers a practical introduction to training deep learning models for gaze and interaction detection.
On Day 1, participants will learn how to select suitable video frames, create and label training datasets, train and apply a tracking model.
On Day 2, we will use these tracking outputs to annotate social interactions and train a gaze or interaction detection model.
The workshop is designed for SFB research groups interested in applying automated detection of interactions (e.g. gaze) to their own videos. If you do not have a video dataset (yet) but would still like to try out the models, we can provide datasets. No previous coding knowledge is required to participate in the workshop. Registration is open until Nov 7, 2025. Participation is limited to a maximum of 25 people.

We are excited to host the first Göttingen Cognition Forum. We are looking forward to welcoming researchers from around the world to discuss how social interactions and interaction with the environment shape cognition in humans and non-human animals. The Forum brings together diverse perspectives from neuroscience, psychology, behavioral biology, computational sciences, and related fields to foster interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. For details, please visit the Conference website
Oct 9-29, daily full day, at the German Primate Center, Kellnerweg 4
Roger Mundry again offers his "Linear Models and their application in R" Workshop. Please note that registration is required. For details and a link to the registration form, please visit the workshop website
August 27, 4-6 PM, Lecture Hall West
A workshop on possibilities for mentoring, coaching and other measures to support diversity and inclusion. We will focus on first hand experience reports from former participants in different programs and will give an update on available support measures.
June 23-25, Conference center at the Historic Observatory
The Retreat is the annual convention of all SFB members to discuss the progress in the previous year as well as future plans. The Retreat also involves social events like a communal barbeque and a hike to the nearby nature reserve Kerstlingröder Feld.

Social background plays an important role in the German higher education system and also influences the decision to pursue a doctorate. Students and researchers from non-academic backgrounds are still underrepresented in academia. This workshop aims to support first-generation academics in developing strategies to use their personal background as a positive element in their careers. The workshop will be held in German. Registration is required. Please visit this page for more information about the workshop and a link for registration.
22. Januar, 27.
