Linear Models and their application in R

The workshop by Roger Mundry introduces linear models and their application in R. The course is part-time lecture, part-time hands-on workshop and introduces various statistical models from simple regression to Generalized Linear Mixed Models. Participants furthermore learn how to visualize their data and how to interpret model assumptions and diagnostics.

Primate Cognitive Neuroscience Summer School 2026
July 26 – Aug 07, 2026, Bad Bevensen
The fourth instantiation of this European Summer School will bring together PhD students, early postdocs, and an international list of faculty for an intense training programme in primate cognitive and systems neuroscience. Teaching will focus on cognitive processes in primate sensory and motor systems as well as in social settings and decision making, and will include important and novel results and methodologies. Topics of animal welfare, ethics, and media outreach will also be covered. Each faculty member will teach for about one half-day and furthermore will be available for individual scientific discussions, career planning advice, and scientific networking. Participants are expected to present their ongoing work in a poster presentation.
Selection of applicants is competitive; registration deadline is February 28, 2026

Git for Scientists: Version Control for Code and Data

This one-day workshop by Georgios Kaklamanos will introduce Git, a powerful tool for version control that helps researchers, developers, and analysts manage their code and data more effectively. Many who work with scripts or notebooks—whether in Python, R, or other programming languages—often face challenges like sharing updates without endless email attachments, keeping track of changes made by different team members, or maintaining multiple versions of files without creating confusing copies. Git provides practical solutions to these issues, allowing users to collaborate efficiently, track modifications, and easily revert to earlier versions when needed.

Data simulation for linear models in R

In this three-week workshop, Roger Mundy teaches how to simulate data in a framework of linear models. Simulated data has the advantage that the “truth” is known. Hence, one can compare what a model reveals with truth. The perhaps most well-known use of simulated data is 'power analysis', i.e. determining the probability of an analysis to reveal significance, given a certain effect and sample size, an alpha level, and a test. However, it can also be used to test, for instance, if a method is working as planned, how an analysis behaves if assumptions are violated, or to estimate the width of confidence intervals.

Neurizons 2026
May 19-22, 2026, Max Planck Institute for Multidisziplinary Natural Sciences
The 12th Biennial Neurizons Conference is organised by the IMPRS for Neurosciences. The event combines scientific conference and Career Fair, bringing together professionals who have built careers outside academia, as well as professional development workshops focused on navigating and succeeding both within and beyond academia. The plenary speakers at the conference include Prof. Ilka Diester, Prof. Sheila Nirenberg, Prof. Frank Winkler, Prof. Pieter Roelfsema, Prof. Gustavo Deco, Prof. Helen Barron, and others.
