SEAG was established in September 2000. The first SEAG Symposium-cum-Workshop on Sustainable Development in the context of Globalization and Locality: Challenges and Options for Networking in Southeast Asia was opened on the 18th September, 2000 at the Institute Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Bogor, Indonesia.

The main SEAG activities include :

(i) publishing several Alumni Newsletters regularly on its own,
(ii) active participation in the discussion forum and further improve their website
(iii) preparing joint proposal for scientific cooperation with German partners
(iv) setting up Alumni offices and contact points in different countries.
