Structure of IPAG Program
The program is mainly modular in construction and includes the participation in various types of modules and courses, the writing of the dissertation and the disputation. Successful completion of the PhD studies leads to 180 ECTS-credits (1 credit = 30 hours workload). The modules equal a workload of 6 Credits each. The preparation of the dissertation equals a workload of 150 credits.
The regular study time is 6 semesters. However, due to different research topics, it is difficult beforehand to estimate the time of the research work and the publication of the results, so many student use 8 semesters and more to finish their studies.
Modules and Courses:
Modules can be composed of different forms of teaching: lectures, seminars, exercises, practical, colloquia as well as project work or combinations of these different forms.
In each of the four areas “Progress Reports”, “Methodology”, “Expert Knowledge” and “Soft Skills” one module with the workload of 6 ECTS credits must be fulfilled successfully.
In addition, other courses with a more in-depth character may be offered. Attendance at the latter type of courses is voluntary.
The acceptability of not listed modules offered by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences or modules taken outside the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences or the University of Göttingen is decided by the IPAG Advisory Board. Please contact the Student Advisory office for information on the application procedure.
