Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development

The Institutes of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen have agreed to merge to form the "Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development". The Department is divided into eleven chairs.



Start of the Research Network "Zukunft der Ernährung in Niedersachsen" ("Future of Nutrition in Lower Saxony" ZERN)

The University of Göttingen, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) and the German Institute of Food Technology (DIL) intend to develop ways to shape the transformation of the agricultural and food systems in Lower Saxony and thus improve sustainability over the next five years.
The focus will be on agriculture, nutrition and the environment and their many interconnections.


63rd Annual Conference of GEWISOLA in Göttingen

The 63rd Annual Conference of the Society for Economic and Social Sciences of Agriculture (GEWISOLA) will take place from Wednesday, 20 September to Friday, 22 September 2023 at the Georg August University in Göttingen.

The Universities of Göttingen (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences) and Kassel (Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences) as well as the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture) invite for participation and submission of papers.

The conference theme is:   "Sustainable food systems and land use change"


DFG Research Training Group "Sustainable Food Systems"

The Department is founder and lead organization of the Research Training Group (RTG 2654) “Sustainable Food Systems”, which is sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The RTG combines excellent interdisciplinary research on emerging topics for global food systems with innovative qualification concepts
