Faculty of Theology
The Faculty introduces itself
The University of Göttingen (Georg-August-Universität) was founded in 1737 in the spirit of the Enlightenment. The Faculty of Theology was one of the first faculties to be established in the university and it remains true to its rational-critical legacy. On the basis of exacting philological and historical research its objective is to contribute to discussions on and the shaping of modern Protestantism.
The Faculty of Theology in Göttingen is one of the most research intensive of its kind in Germany. This is not least due to the close cooperation the faculty enjoys with many partners and institutions in Europe and worldwide.
Study contents: Theological disciplines
Theological study centers around five classic disciplines. All Protestant Theology and Religious Pedagogy is grounded in these disciplines, even though individual study programs may differ from one another in terms of goals, structure and focus.
