Information on Applying for Parking Permits for University Employees and Guests

To manage parking capacity, only one parking space is generally approved. Therefore, please select the parking space closest to your workplace on the application form. Exceptions to this rule can only be granted for very specific reasons. Please discuss this with your supervisor and contact the Central Card Service (Zentrale Kartenstelle) before submitting your application.

As a general rule, a 4 km-limit applies to the distance between a person’s place of residence and place of work for the issuance of a parking permit. Exceptions to this rule apply to individuals with severe disabilities or significant impairments, who may apply for a parking permit through the representative body for people with severe disabilities (SBV). Parents with young children can also obtain a special exemption through the university’s Family Services office if the distance between their home and workplace, including the route to the daycare center, exceeds the 4-km limit. Additional exceptions may be granted in the interest of official business. The interest of official business can be demonstrated, for example, through a flat-rate business trip authorization (“long distance” = “officially recognized vehicle”). Alternatively, the official interest may also consist of holding elected office, such as membership in the Senate or its committees, or similar positions. Please contact the Central Card Service before submitting your application.

In accordance with the university’s parking policy, a parking permit does not authorize the parking of vehicles on university property for multiple days, but only for the duration of official duties. Business trips lasting multiple days are an exception.

Information on Applying for a Student Parking Permit:

Students can also apply for a parking permit. Please find the form on eCampus.

Parking permits are generally subject to a fee (currently €15.00). Exemptions from the fee apply to the following groups, in accordance with the regulations for employees and guests: Exemptions for students with severe disabilities or similar impairments must be requested through the Student Disability Representative. The University’s Family Services office is responsible for parents with young children. When holding an elected office, e.g., in the AStA, the application is approved by the faculty or the University’s Legal Department.

In accordance with the university’s parking policy, a parking permit does not authorize the parking of vehicles on university property for multiple days, but only for the duration of lectures and events. An exception is made for multiple day field trips that involve travel.

Rental of Parking Spaces

To rent parking spaces, please contact the Real Estate Department (Fachbereich Liegenschaften). Parking permits for UMG employees in university parking lots must be paid for due to the separation of assets between the two parts of the foundation. These permits must be requested through the department at the Central Card Service and will be billed to the department.
The university parking garage on Goßlerstraße is managed by the university’s subsidiary UMGfacilities GmbH. You can purchase semester parking tickets or other parking passes there. Tickets are available here: https://go.evopark.de/umgfacilities-de

License Plate Changes

The license plate numbers of authorized users are stored centrally. These numbers, along with contact information, are required so that we can immediately contact the authorized user in the event of violations of the university’s parking policy or other incidents. Therefore, please remember to notify us of your new license plate number via the parking authorization application when you register a new vehicle or re-register your vehicle!

Parking Management in the North Campus Area

Due to increasing parking pressure from external users, the university will begin managing parking in the North Campus area ahead of the 2026/2027 winter semester. Unauthorized parking is therefore expected to be monitored and penalized starting in October.
