"Service Learning" Working Group (person responsible: Dr. Gudula Kreykenbohm, Student and Academic Services)
Service Learning, as it is called, combines academic learning with civic engagement in the form of services rendered for charitable organisations. This approach helps students make a meaningful contribution to improving community service and solving problems for the common good. Within the context of the current challenges facing refugee aid programmes, the "Service Learning" Working Group brings together stakeholders like students, teaching staff and representatives of charitable organisations for a regular dialogue with each other. The objective is share experiences on ongoing projects, identify needs and framework conditions and convey suggestions and ideas for further expansion of the Service Learning offerings for refugee relief. The first meeting of the network with this agenda took place in December 2015. A website with information on the topic of Service Learning has been set up. Since the summer semester 2016, the Student and Academic Services have made a position of a coordinator available for the support and systematic further development of Service Learning. The position is financed from study quality funds.
