Application Deadline: (dd.mm.yyyy) 13.06.2024

The Faculty of Biology and Psychology at the University of Göttingen invites applications for a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W2 NBesO) with tenure track (grade W3 NBesO) at the Georg-Elias-Müller Institute of Psychology effective on April 1, 2025:

W2 Professorship with tenure track to W3 in Clinical Psychology (f/m/d)

The successful candidate will initially be appointed for a period of five years. Transfer to a permanent professorship (W3) shall take place after a positive evaluation without the position being readvertised.

We are looking for a team-oriented and committed colleague who has distinguished themselves through outstanding international publications in the field of clinical psychology as well as through the acquisition of relevant competitive third-party funding. The applicant’s research profile should be compatible with the cognitive psychology research profile of the Institute of Psychology, which is mainly experimental and basic research-oriented. The profile should also be compatible with the interdisciplinary research focus “Cognition & Behavior”. Additionally, a clinical research focus or methodology that broadens the profile of the existing departments is particularly desirable (e.g. application of digital assessment and intervention procedures or everyday online surveys, recording of clinically relevant psychophysiological and/or neuronal processes).

With regard to teaching, the professorship will cover the entire field of clinical psychology and psychotherapy, in the Bachelor course Psychology and in the Masters course Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, alongside two other clinical-psychological professorships. In the Masters’ programme, the teaching focus is on practice-oriented teaching (BQT-II) and clinical-psychological diagnostics. In addition, the professorship will participate in the conceptualisation and implementation of a shared management structure for the therapy and counselling centre (“Therapie- und Beratungszentrum, TBZ”) and the associated university outpatient clinic for psychotherapy (“Hochschulambulanz für Psychotherapie”) as well as the postgraduate training programme in psychological psychotherapy (“Weiterbildender Studiengang Psychologische Psychotherapie, WSPP”).

Appointment requirements are: The German “Habilitation” in the field of Psychology or equivalent qualifications in research and teaching. In addition, the applicant should have finished the German clinical training to become a licensed psychological therapist (“abgeschlossene Approbation”) or should be at an advanced stage of their training. This clinical qualification should be for an empirically tested and approved psychological treatment. The University places great value on open, transparent and replicable research. Applicants should state how they currently pursue these aspects and how they plan to consider them in their future teaching and research. The University of Göttingen attaches importance to research-oriented teaching.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen who obtained their doctorate from this university can only be considered for a professorial appointment if they have changed to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere after completion of their doctoral thesis. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.

Applications from abroad are explicitly welcome. The University of Göttingen strives to increase the proportion of women in areas where women are underrepresented and therefore explicitly invites qualified female candidates to apply. The University has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports its employees in balancing work and family life. The University is particularly committed to the professional participation of disabled employees and therefore welcomes applications from persons with disabilities. In the case of equivalent qualifications, applications from disabled persons will be given preference. In order for the University to be able to protect the interests of the applicant, information about a disability or equal status should be included in the application.

Applications in German or English should include a curriculum vitae, certificates, a list of publications, a record of teaching experience, a research and teaching concept and a list of the acquired third-party funding. Please submit your application in PDF format to the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Psychology Prof. Dr. Rolf Daniel (dekanbio@uni-goettingen.de) by June 13, 2024.
