The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Göttingen invites applications for a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W3 NBesO) at the Seminar of English Philology starting on October 1, 2027:
W3 Professorship in Anglophone Literature and Culture (f/m/d)
We are looking for a team-oriented and committed colleague, who is professionally outstanding and has a proven track record of internationally visible publications. The successful candidate will represent the subject in its entire historical and theoretical range, with a secondary focus on comparative literature. In terms of research, we expect two areas of focus in Anglophone literature from 1580 onwards, as well as research expertise in gender and diversity studies.
Responsibilities include teaching in all relevant degree programmes of the Seminar as well as comparative literature, gender research and world literature. They further include participation in academic self-administration. Involvement in the division’s practical modules on the literature and culture industries is desirable. The University of Göttingen places great value on research-oriented teaching.
We further expect the willingness for intra- and interdisciplinary cooperation within the faculty including new third-party funding initiatives.
The Faculty of Humanities explicitly welcomes teaching and research approaches that include gender perspectives.
In addition to outstanding professional expertise, we expect applicants to be highly committed to teaching, interested in further development and quality assurance of teaching concepts and degree programmes, and willing to contribute actively to quality development.
Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen can only be considered for a professorial appointment if after the completion of the doctoral thesis they have transferred to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.
