The Faculty of Theology invites applications for a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W3 NBesO) starting on 1 April 2028:

W3 Professorship in Systematic Theology / Lutheran Dogmatics
and Philosophy of Religion (f/m/d)

We are looking for a team-oriented and committed scholar who will represent the entire field of dogmatics in research and teaching, including in the English-language degree programme Intercultural Theology. A central focus of research should be on Lutheran dogmatics in history and the present, also from an international perspective, and with an ecumenical orientation. In addition, a recognisable focus on the discourse between faith and knowledge is expected, in particular in the philosophy of religion, but also in fundamental anthropology, or the debate between theology and sciences. The University of Göttingen attaches importance to research-oriented teaching.

Application requirements include an outstanding dissertation, a completed Habilitation or Habilitation-equivalent achievements in the field of systematic theology, other high-level achievements in research and teaching as well as experience in acquiring third-party funding.

Participation in intra-faculty research projects and inter-faculty research networks is expected, as is a commitment to acquiring third-party funding and participation in academic self-administration.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen can only be considered for a professorial appointment if after the completion of the doctoral thesis they have transferred to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request. Membership in a Protestant church is a prerequisite.
