At the Top of the Rankings


CHE University Ranking


The Faculty of Business and Economics does very well in the current ranking of the Centre for Higher Education Development ("Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung" - CHE) of 2023 and is in the top and middle group with the evaluated fields of Business Administration, Economics and Business Information Systems (bachelor's and Master's programmes). Students in particular are very satisfied with their overall study situation and rate the faculty above average in the respective student surveys:

According to the CHE, the ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed university comparison in the German-speaking world, with around 120,000 students surveyed and more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences ("Fachhochschulen") as well as dual universities and universities of cooperative education ("Berufsakademien") examined.

The CHE University Ranking is based on data about studies, teaching, equipment and research as well as results from surveys of students and professors at the respective university. There is no final ranking list of the participating universities. Instead, the CHE classifies the universities and universities of applied sciences etc. into three groups (top, middle and bottom groups) according to indicators and criteria it has developed itself.


The results of the student survey on the study situation in general are presented for the first time this year using a 5-star scale.

WirtschaftsWoche ranking of the most productive business researchers 2022


In the current WirtschaftsWoche ranking of the most research-intensive business economists in the German-speaking world, Prof. Dr. Maik Hammerschmidt is among the top 250 of more than 3,600 people included in the ranking. In the ranking for lifetime achievement, which includes all research work over the course of a career, Prof. Dr. Lutz M. Kolbe is in 194th place. In addition, Prof. Dr. Simon Trang (37th place) and Prof. Dr. Manuel Trenz (59th place) are among the most research-intensive business economists under the age of 40 in the ranking: More Information



Handelsblatt ranking 2021


In the Handelsblatt (German business magazine) ranking 2021, German-speaking economists are evaluated based on their research strengths. Prof. Dr. Holger Strulik, holder of the Chair of Macroeconomics and Development Economics, is the highest ranking economist working in Germany. He ranks fifth overall, followed by Prof. Dr. Helmut Herwartz (Chair of Econometrics) in 81st place.
