Research in Europe
You are warmly invited to our information event “Research in Europe” on Thursday 12 October 2023
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University of Göttingen, ZHG, Platz der Göttinger Sieben 5.
Organised by the European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations (KoWi) and the University of Göttingen, “Research in Europe” brings together everything early career researchers need to know about individual funding opportunities - whether you aspire to a national or international career in research. A range of research and funding organisations present their programs and institutions. There will be opportunities to discuss your individual questions at information desks run by funders, research organisations and experts based here who advise researchers about their careers and funding.
Students in higher semesters, graduates, PhD researchers and postdocs, as well as professors who would like to get information for the researchers they supervise, and those interested in doctoral studies, are warmly invited to join us. The event is open to everyone. People from outside Göttingen are also most welcome. The event is in English and participation is free of charge.

Program
Registration desk opens at 8:30 and talks kick-off at 9:00.
Of particular interest, is the first session which will put your career choices in the context of a dynamic research funding environment. You’ll get a better understanding of the “Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment” and how this could affect research funding, especially for early career researchers. The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities will share who is on board, especially in Germany, and why it’s happening now. The German Research Foundation (DFG)’s will give their reasons for signing the Agreement. You’ll hear about the various opportunities and risks before you get the chance to ask questions.
Visitors are welcome to join us for the whole day for networking and information exchange, or come and go during the day, dip into the talks from 9:00 or grab a coffee and get to know funders, research organisations and experts from Göttingen at the info stands from 10:00. You will find the funders’ info desks and information of all organizations contributing to the program as well as Göttingen Campus Postdoc Network and Göttingen Campus support structures for early career researchers in the foyer of ZHG. Take a look at the list of stands here, an overview of the sessions below and plan your visit! More detailed information about the funders and research organisations giving sessions can be found here.
