The Best Young Researchers, Top-Level Scientists and International Networks
Winning the best young researchers, retaining top-level scientists, developing international networks, and intensifying the collaboration with non-university research institutions: These are the main aims of the Göttingen concept for the future promoted in the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments. In a film shown on the DFG video portal scientists of Göttingen University present the successful implementation.
The institutional strategy encompasses four central projects: Brain Gain and the Courant Research Centres are an innovative way to gain outstanding junior researchers and to open up career paths for the best among them. In addition, Brain Sustain provides a concept to retain the top-level researchers once they have established themselves. These projects are flanked by two additional measures: the Lichtenberg-Kolleg promotes research in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, whereas Göttingen International aids the recruitment of excellent students and junior scientists from abroad.
Scientists working at two of the seven Courant Research Centres, each representing one particular field of science, present their research and talk about the advantages of the Göttingen science campus. A professor for German and comparative literature explains how a sabbatical enables him to dedicate himself completely to research. Finally the director of the Lichtenberg-Kolleg talks about how this institute of advanced studies brings together young international top-level researchers with scientists and scholars from Göttingen.
