3. Conclusion
Despite the legal requirement for accessible teaching and the technical possibilities for this, the reality in Germany is sadly deficient. The vast majority of teaching in general and the digital teaching in the form of teaching videos in particular unfortunately still contain substantial barriers to various groups of people, e.g. deaf and blind people.
We hope that this guide will show stakeholders, teachers and other individuals not only the challenges, but also the importance and the opportunities there are for planning accessible teaching videos. Our experience shows that while this gives rise to additional work to begin with, all our team members have benefited from the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and the shared reflection. Interestingly, besides benefiting those for whom it is produced the accessible material also benefited all other students. Every newly-created accessible teaching offer makes an important contribution to an inclusive society. Therefore, the production of accessible teaching videos is surely true to the motto of the University of Göttingen, “In Publica Commoda” – for the good of all.
